TikTok vs YouTube

My first very blog I talked about the rise of TikTok. TikTok over the past couple of months has become one of the premiere social media apps. One of the biggest entertainment apps is looking too steal the formula of TikToks success.

YouTube announced on Wednesday, April 1st, 2020 that they are developing a short-form video feature that would allow creators to post videos that are under fifteen seconds long. This feature would be called "Shorts".

This feature will be available inside the YouTube app for content creators, and it will allow users to link their videos to YouTube's music library to create videos that are alike to those on TikTok.

YouTube CEO Susan Wojciki said "“We actually have introduced stories on YouTube and we’ve actually seen our creators really engage with the stories,". Wojcicki hopes to add on to the success YouTube has found by implementing a new formula to keep things fresh. "“That would be an example of really short-form content. So we will definitely continue to innovate in all the different format sizes, including really short-form video.”

Social media sites have been watching TikTok grow rapidly within the past few months. These sites include, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more. However, YouTube is the first to try to be a direct competitor.

“Really, really short-form video, like 15 seconds... that is a place that is certainly interesting to look at, and for us to think about,” Wojcicki said.

TikTok is an intriguing app for all walks of life. Now is a better time than ever to download the app, with the "stay at home" movement going on. TikTok is a creative way for people to express themselves, whether its with dance, comedy, singing, acting, or anything. Now that everyone s stuck at home, more people will download the app, therefore new content will be created everyday.

I personally think YouTube is trying to copy off of TikTok's success. I think if YouTube really wanted to be in the short video business, they would have created this feature when Vine got shutdown. Like TikTok, Vine was an app that would let creators make short videos, however; Vine only allowed videos to be uploaded that were up to six seconds.

It will be interesting to see how the TikTok vs YouTube war goes these next couple of months.
